The investment world and the Boston community are mourning the loss of Mark Brostowski, who passed away on February 1, 2026. A titan of the high-yield and distressed debt markets with over 30 years of experience, Mark was a man of immense professional intellect and even greater personal character.
A Distinguished Career in Finance
Mark began his illustrious career in 1987 at Salomon Brothers Inc., quickly rising to become a Director and senior member of the High Yield Trading Desk. His career was defined by his ability to navigate complex restructurings and credit markets.
In 1999, Mark was one of the founding members of Regiment Capital Advisors, LP, a multibillion-dollar credit hedge fund. As a Partner and Portfolio Manager, he played a critical role in the firm’s ascent. He later established a direct lending business with $3 billion under management, which was eventually sold to the Trust Company of the West. Most recently, he served as the Principal of Virian Capital LLC, where he was a sought-after advisor and an active angel investor with Arten Capital.
Education and Board Leadership
A proud Spartan and Fighting Irishman, Mark held a B.S. from Michigan State University and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame.
His leadership extended into various industries and boardrooms, serving as a Director for IVS BULK PTE LTD in Singapore and Mad River Distillers in Vermont. However, his heart remained in community service. In Boston, he served on the boards of Hill House and the Teddy Ebersol Red Sox Field Foundation, ensuring that the city’s youth had spaces to grow and play.
Family and Personal Life
Though Mark was a powerhouse in the financial world, his greatest joy was his family. He recently relocated from his long-time home in Boston to Florida with his wife, Maribeth, a former partner in Lewis Interiors. Together, they raised two children, Ginger and Ian, who were the light of his life.
Mark will be remembered as a mentor, a brilliant strategist, and a devoted family man whose legacy of integrity will continue to influence the investment community for years to come.
