The Foley community and the Minnesota wrestling world are grieving the loss of Tyler Funk, who passed away on February 2, 2026. A celebrated athlete, a “bright light” to his friends, and a devoted father, Tyler’s legacy is woven into the very fabric of Foley High School athletics.
A Hall of Fame Legacy on the Mat
Tyler was a cornerstone of the Foley Falcon Wrestling program. A member of the prestigious 100 Wins Club, he was widely regarded as one of the most tenacious competitors to ever wear the Falcon singlet. His high school career was defined by elite-level success at the state level:

Following his graduation in 2014, Tyler continued his athletic journey at the collegiate level as a redshirt freshman, carrying the discipline and “brotherhood” of the sport with him.
A Brother and a Bright Light
Beyond the wrestling mat, Tyler was known for his ability to illuminate any room he entered. Friends recall him as a “loyal brother” and a first friend whose childhood phone number they still know by heart. Whether he was competing or simply sharing time with loved ones, his spirit was infectious, and his kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
“Wrestling makes you brothers,” shared a former teammate. “The Foley Wrestling family lost a good one, but he will be forever in our hearts.”
Family and Legacy
Born on April 7, 1996, Tyler was the cherished son of Kurt and Julie Funk. He was a dedicated father to his beautiful daughter, Blakely, who was the center of his world. He is also survived by his siblings, Kylee and Tanner, and a vast community of “Falcon” brothers and sisters.
Tyler’s life was a testament to strength, both physical and emotional. While his time was cut far too short, the love he shared and the records he set will ensure that the name Tyler Funk is never forgotten in Foley.
